  • AJA DataCalc – An extremely useful tool for determining your file storage needs before you begin a digital media project.
  • AJA System Check – Use this handy app to check the performance of any drive on your system to ensure it is tuned for the performance you need to use today’s demanding media file formats.
  • Audacity – An easy-to-use, multi-track audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and other operating systems.
  • Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Lite – Includes the same high quality processing as the full DaVinci Resolve with unlimited color correction nodes, however it limits projects to SD and HD resolutions and a single processing GPU.
  • Blackmagic Design Fusion – An advanced visual effects and motion graphics solution with over 25 years of development and industry use.
  • Blender – A free and open source 3D animation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation. 
  • Burn – Simple but advanced disc burning for Mac OS X.
  • ffmpegx – A single application to quickly encode and author video in many formats.
  • Gimp – GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.
  • GoPro Studio – Makes it easier than ever to create professional-quality videos with your GoPro content.
  • Handbrake – Handbrake is an open-source, GPL licensed, multi-platform, multi-threaded video transcoder and disc ripper.
  • Korsakow – The Korsakow System (pronounced ‘KOR-SA-KOV’) is an easy-to-use computer program for the creation of database films. An open-source application for creating web docs and other kinds of nonlinear, interactive narratives.
  • Microsoft Office 365 – MS Office is available free to all UCF students to download and use! Click on the link to find out how to download and activate.
  • MPEG Streamclip – MPEG Streamclip is a powerful high-quality video converter, player, editor for MPEG, QuickTime, transport streams, iPod. And now it is a DivX editor and encoding machine, and even a stream and YouTube downloader.
  • Open Office – A powerful office suite that includes word processing, spreadsheets, multimedia presentation, and other software.
  • Processing – A programming language, development environment, and online community.
  • Quicktime 7 – Supports older media formats, such as QTVR, interactive QuickTime movies, and MIDI files on Snow Leopard and OS X Lion. Also includes legacy, but useful, features such as Image Sequence.
  • SketchUp – A fun and easy to use 3D modeling application that is useful in pre-visualization and design solutions. Made by Google.
  • Slack – Slack brings all your communication together in one place. It is real-time messaging, archiving and search for modern teams.
  • Transmit – Fast, secure, and easy to use file transfer FTP client.
  • VLC – VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols.

Free Plugins & Presets

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (& CC) Presets for Apple ProRes Codecs – Adobe Media Encoder does not come with Apple ProRes presets installed by default, they must be download and installed independently. Available for Mac computers only.
  • Apple ProApps QuickTime Codecs – Professional video codecs for use by QuickTime-based applications: Apple Intermediate Codec, Apple ProRes, AVC-Intra, DVCPRO HD, HDV, XDCAM HD / EX / HD422, MPEG IMX, Uncompressed 4:2:2, & XAVC.   • Automatic Duck – Legacy plugins for generating and round-tripping OMF, AAF, and XML files to and from different NLE’s and support software.

  • CoreMeltFREE! – VFX and text effects for a variety of NLE’s.
  • Creative Impatience – A variety of VFX plugins for Adobe Premiere.
  • Flip4Mac – Play Windows Media files (.wma and .wmv) directly in QuickTime Player and view Windows Media content on the Internet using a Web browser.
  • Jarle’s Premiere Pro Presets v.1.0 – 63 presets that are compatible with Premiere Pro CS6, and can be installed in seconds. You get lots of Color Grading presets, including several “Looks” presets for Bleach Bypass, Teal & Orange, Sepia, Color Negative, Cross Process and many more. In addition, there are LOG to LIN presets for Arri Alexa, Canon Cinestyle for DSLRs, Sony F3, and some scaling tools.
